Able Mabel

Able Mabel Emily White Portrait

Hello I’m Emily (aka Able Mabel). Wearing many hats, often ones I’ve made, I have founded a business that combines my love of vintage, dressing up and beautiful things.

As a child I was always fascinated by bygone eras and collecting Vogue magazines new and old filled my mind with creative possibilities and a love of glamour. Still dreaming of Dior, after graduating from a fashion related degree course, I started work styling and window dressing for a global fashion brand. Although this job was initially fulfilling, styling wigs, outfits and interiors, I started to become disillusioned with the fast fashion industry. My style during this time was also evolving, mixing up vintage charity shop finds with the odd bit of high street.

Over time, my hairstyles became more elaborate and I started creating accessories to accompany them. It wasn’t until a good friend put her trust in me and asked me to create her wedding look that I realised I had a flair for bridal and it gave me the push I needed to offer the same service to others. So in 2014, armed with a hot wand and a glue gun, Able Mabel was born!

My ability to sew and an insatiable obsession with fabric came from my mum and I am thrilled that she is now an important part of Able Mabel. It’s definitely those little dresses she made me as a child that has given me a life long love of Liberty fabrics. You’ll usually find us in a haberdashery shop perusing the buttons or poking around a vintage shop for hidden treasures.

You can find her beautiful hand-knitted 1940s style knitwear alongside my accessories in our Etsy shop.

Able Mabel is based in the lovely West Country City of Bristol, but I work all over the South West and UK. I’d love to talk about how we can work together.
